This is an example of an interactive multiple choice question from the SmartBoard lesson. During this interactive lesson, students can ask their peers for help, and they also get to physically reinforce what they are learning. By being engaged, it increases the likelihood of retention, so such a simple assessment will help the students in the long run.

This worksheet includes two levels of questioning: identify and create. This gives students more practice in both, which will be especially helpful in their own writing. This also gives me a chance to assess at what level students feel comfortable. Some might not be able to identify whereas some can do both, while some students might be able to identify but not create. This worksheet allows for closer assessment of ability.
